How to Prepare for a Newborn Photography Session: Tips from a Professional

Intro:
Your newborn session is about more than beautiful photos — it’s about capturing the love and connection in those first days together, And as part of your baby’s first year, don’t miss our post on The 4 Milestones Every Parent Should Capture.. As a Maryland newborn photographer, I’ve put together my top tips for making your newborn photo session as relaxed and stress-free as possible.

1. Schedule Early
The best time for newborn photos is between 5–14 days after birth, so booking during your second or third trimester ensures your spot is reserved.

2. Keep It Cozy
I’ll bring everything we need to your home — blankets, wraps, and a calm approach. A warm room helps keep your baby relaxed and sleepy for those adorable curled-up poses. We also have the option of my home studio if your home is not photo ready .

3. Go with the Flow
Babies run the show! We’ll pause for feedings, diaper changes, and snuggles as needed. Lifestyle newborn sessions are all about natural moments, not perfection.

4. Include the Whole Family
Parents, siblings, and even pets are welcome — these photos tell your family’s full story. See why that matters in our post on Why you need a photographer for life.
